magnetic monkey margeting blog successNew Year, New You? Are you ready for a positive change in your life? We certainly are! Everyone knows that the first step to entering a new year, is to let go of all the old shit that is just weighing you down. And this goes for every aspect of our lives—personal and work related.

We came across this great list on Entrepreneur.com from Amna Shamim. She writes “The 9 Things You need to Let Go of For Success in 2017” and we just had to share it with you.

So, here it is, Marketer Friends, the nine things we’ll be letting go of in the New Year.

  1. “Having a sense of entitlement.” I’m sure you are the extra special butterfly your mom told you you are, but it doesn’t mean anything and everything should be handed to you. This is especially true as an entrepreneur. When you want something to work, you have to MAKE it work. It takes drive and ambition and a LOT of effort to make success happen for yourself. If you want new business, go out and get new business. If you want to strengthen relationships with existing clientele, work that angle until it happens. You get the picture
  2. “Trying to do everything alone.” We do not live in a sad, solitary world. We live in a beautiful, collaborative one. It is okay to get help, to seek answers, to find advice when you need it. That’s how you learn and grow as a business person. Don’t feel like you have to go at it alone. This is a scary and often intimidating world and we could use all the help we can get.
  3. “Trying to be perfect.” You know that it’s okay to fail. We’ve talked about it, for Pete’s sake! Failure is a very natural part of the path to success. Letting go of that need to be right, to be perfect, will serve you and everyone you know incredibly well this year. Go on, give it a try.
  4. “Comparing yourself with others.” Don’t trap yourself by constantly comparing your accomplishments (or failures) to others. They can inspire you, but don’t let it take over your self-esteem. Trust us, it never works out well. Focus more on yourself and less on how you relate to others.
  5. “Procrastinating.” Okay, it is so easy to put things off—especially things you don’t particularly want to do but know you have to do anyway. This is the year to prepare yourself for success without procrastinating. You’ll thank your past self for getting it done sooner and be much happier in the long run.
  6. “Being under-prepared.” This goes hand in hand with forgoing procrastination. Prepare yourself from the get go and be ready for anything. Gone are the days that you mess up a client pitch or an advertising campaign or anything that matters really because you were under prepared.
  7. “Constantly complaining.” This is so important! Let go of constant complaining and focus on much more positive things. It will serve you so much more to focus on creation instead of destruction. If something isn’t working, find a way to fix it. No complains necessary.
  8. “Buying things you don’t need.” You definitely do not need to buy all the unnecessary fancy new toys. It is all about prioritization. What is important right now? Is it a cool new drone or is it a training program your team really wants? Maybe it’s even a website rebrand! The point is: don’t waste your money on unnecessary bullshit when you could spend it on something that will actually further your business.
  9. “Thinking you’re not ready.” What does this even mean? “I’m not ready.” No one will ever be ‘ready’ at the exact right moment. You have to learn to just roll with the movement and make it happen for yourself. There will never be the perfect moment, you have to make it your perfect moment.

So, that’s it for now! Happy 2017, everyone! Make this year the best one yet.
