magnetic monkey marketing blog writers blockWe’ve talked a lot about content lately– how to create it, why we need it, etc. Obviously, content is a huge part of every marketing strategy, but sometimes, we just can’t get it together. We’ve all had writer’s block at some point, right? We certainly have– you wouldn’t believe how long it took just to write this one blog.

Writer’s block can be incredibly frustrating, but in the end, it’s a great lesson for us all. How can we move forward and continue our task at hand? A little motivation can go a long way! Trust us!

Here are 5 motivational tips for B2B writers from Equinet Media that inspired us to keep keep going

  1. “Freewrite” This is a technique all sorts of writers utilize when they want to push themselves. Try setting a predetermined period of time to just write. Don’t stop no matter what and just write whatever flows through your head. It might be uncomfortable at first and it might not even end up coherent, but at least you jump started your writing muscles. It’s a great warm up exercise for anyone who is struggling to put coherent thoughts to paper… erm, type them on a screen. Whatever, you get the picture. Just try it out and see what happens.
  2. “Embrace discomfort” The greatest cliche we’ve ever come across is that nothing worth having is easy. Writing is hard! And sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but you have to push through that discomfort. B2B content is a whole other beast we fight every day, but it is possible. It doesn’t have to be something you fight at every turn. It can be something you work and work at and eventually you’ll see your finished product and be proud of what you’ve accomplished.
  3. “Keep your eyes on the prize” Just don’t give up. Don’t ever give up on what you’re doing. Sometimes your thoughts just don’t want to form, but remember why you started the task in the first place. Visualize that final product and manifest it into being. Literally! Focus on what that end goal means to you and just sit down and finish it. Ultimately, the goal is to connect with your audience. Remember that all the struggle is worth it and you will finish.
  4. “Don’t fret” It’s okay to mess up every now and then. We’re all human and sometimes we fail. You all know that failure is a huge part of the path to success. Try not to spend all your time worrying about not finishing or writing something bad– only focus on the content and the rest will follow. Basically, we’re saying to stay in a positive mindset!
  5. “Let go of perfectionism” This was probably the hardest one for us to grasp. As Type A perfectionists, it’s hard to let go of wanting our product to be perfect. But what does ‘perfect’ even mean? Don’t spend all your time changing minor details or stressing about the exact right way of saying something. You’ll never accomplish anything that way. Just focus on performing to the best of your abilities and you will.

We know that writing B2B content is hard sometimes… okay, all of the time. Just remember these 5 tricks and you’ll go a long way.
