Magnetic Monkey Marketing blogAre you a company with a great idea but you’re lacking a product at the moment? It is never too early to start with the marketing! Here are some startup marketing practices you won’t want to miss.

Sometimes we tend to place product above all else. In reality, however, marketing– especially inbound– is just as important. You have to speak to your audience on a level they will understand. We know how vital knowing the voice of your customer is… so why not start as early as possible?

We recently came across an article written by Susanna Gebauer with the Social M’s that really resonated with us. She spoke of three things young companies can do before they even have a product. Trust us, you won’t be surprised by how effective these things can be.

  1. Twitter! Start out simply and create your company twitter account! It will do wonders for you. Twitter offers a solid platform for quick and easy communication. It is a great way to get your name out there! Get yourself a following before you launch your product– makes a lot of sense right? It is seriously never too early to start building an audience and a fan base. Prove why your company will ultimately improve someone’s life– business related or otherwise. Don’t underestimate the power Twitter has! People love the connection aspect that Twitter offers. It gives them a way to humanize the company/product they are looking into.
  2. Blogging! If you’ve learned anything from us, it should be that we are obsessed with the possibilities of blogging! Blogs are obviously very important to your business. We’ve found that blogging can be extraordinarily influential in both the short-term and long-term range. What makes a good blog? Well, a good word length, appropriate links, relevant images, a good list, and a consistent time frame, that’s what! Susanna Gebauer called a blog “your own personal content hub.” How great is that? We think it’s pretty relevant and aptly described.
  3. Email Marketing! This is about building up a more targeted audience. Now, don’t go and buy a list and start spamming it with sales pitches… No one likes that and most of the time, those emails go straight to the trash folder. A targeted email list is pretty much the basis of all the success stories. This is what you need to remember when dealing with email marketing: target building up your list to a specific audience– an untargeted audience will most likely not give you the results you are hoping for; and remember to nurture your audience with value and engagement before you try selling to them– that’s when they’ll WANT to listen to you.

So, put those three things into your cauldron, wave your magic wand, and watch your valued audience grow!
