magnetic monkey marketing blogWe think it is safe to say that you can’t hide in your own little corner for the rest of your marketing career. That is incredibly counterproductive, don’t you think? Marketing is a fast-paced and constantly changing world, so you literally cannot afford to never update. And sometimes it can be quite scary to leave what you know and are comfortable with—but in the end, it is better for your business to leave your comfort zone. In fact, we recommend sprinting head first into the deep end.

We’ve talked a little about this topic before in that we must change with the times. We talked about knowing exactly what it is that your customers want and need from you; otherwise you will become stagnant and obsolete. “If we don’t change, we could become extinct.” I think this quote from Who Moved My Cheese written by Dr. Spencer Johnson, is a great example of what happens when we do not talk to our customers…someone will move your “cheese.”

It is easy and quite tempting to stay on the path that is familiar—the one that you know—yet how does that help you in the long run? The answer is, it doesn’t.

The Social M’s sum it up quite nicely with this quote, “In the online marketing world, the only way of getting good at anything is doing it.” Truer words have never been spoken on the subject. You can’t just expect to become automatically amazing at something. You have to work at it. You have to jump into the unknown and try something totally new and different—be creative!

The best advice we could give you is written in clichés:

  • Actions speak louder than words! Don’t just say something; go out and do it. How many times can we stress getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new? Once more? Okay…
  • When you fall off the horse, get back on! Don’t be afraid of failure. Sometimes that’s bound to happen. You have to know how to get back up and do it again. That’s part of leaving your comfort zone. But trust us, the reward is worth it.
  • Try, try, and try again! This is pretty self-explanatory. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again.
  • Give it your best shot! Just go for it! Literally just dive head first into the deep end. Leaving your comfort zone can be kind of scary, but in the end, you’ll be grateful for the payoff.

Obviously, these are silly examples, but they message will always be relevant. Trying something new could be just what your company needed. It could be the risk that saves the day and ignites greatness!
