We’ve talked many times about the importance of a good CTA. As we are already very well aware– A CTA, first and foremost, is an opportunity for a next step. So it usually manifests as a button or a hyperlink on a website or in an email. It is the precursor to your landing page. The idea is getting someone’s attention and bringing them to a place you want them. A CTA is the first step in converting visitors into a lead.
Now that we’ve had that refresher, let’s dive into the good stuff, shall we? There are many different kinds of CTA’s that we can utilize to our advantage. Hubspot detailed eight of the best ones in a handy little list. Let’s explore.
- Bottom-of-the-Post Smart CTAs You’ll want to have a nice little call to action at the end of each blog post. It’s a great way to bring people to the next step after they’ve read (and hopefully enjoyed) your content. However, you have different types of readers and they’re going to want different types of content. That’s where the smart CTA comes into play. What type of CTA they view is dependent on where they’re at (or not at) in your database. For someone that’s never filled out a form, just a random website visitor, might see a lead gen offer on SEO. A lead that’s visited your website a couple of times might see a CTA for a free trial. And lastly, an existing customer might see something that extends their knowledge of an industry or a product they already have or in adjacent technologies or industry information in order to further their understanding for future purchases.
- Connect on Social CTAs We love social media, right? It pretty much epitomizes everything that inbound marketing stands for. So a CTA that brings viewers to your social media is absolutely vital. Make it easy to spot and click. Nobody wants to spend time looking for your Twitter. They want it right in front of their face! It’s best to just put all of the social media in one easy location. This is a great way for them to view more of your content.
- Tweet This CTAs This is a fun one because it allows people to readily tweet your content to their feeds. Basically, when a reader clicks this link, a pre-written tweet will automatically queue up with a link back to your post. It’s a great way to promote your content through other people– word of mouth referrals!
- Blog Subscription CTAs This one is pretty obvious, yeah? You don’t spend all your time writing interesting and relevant content for no reason. You want people to subscribe to your blog and fall in love with your insight. Make it noticeable and obvious with a “Subscribe for more content!”
- Comment CTAs There are many different ways to end your blog post and that’s entirely dependent on your personal style. Some like to encourage comments! This is a great way to make your content a bit more interactive. A comment CTA will allow for readers to engage and interact with you and your blog. This is as simple as saying “Comment below!” Or maybe you want to ask a direct question for them to respond to. Either way, it will deliver the ultimate goal- engagement.
- Slide-In CTAs Have you heard of the phrase sliding into your DMs? Maybe, maybe not. Let me enlighten you. Basically it’s when someone (usually seeking attention) sends someone a direct message on Instagram. The running joke is that they are sliding into the DM’s for a hookup or a date. This CTA is the totally harmless and less pervy way of doing that. It’s when a reader is scrolling through your page and all the sudden a CTA slides in (like a sneak attack with content) on the bottom of the page. It’s not as obnoxious or intrusive as a pop up CTA, but still get’s your point across.
- In Line CTAs We’re big fans of this one. You might recognize this type of CTA in pretty much every single one of our blogs. This one is a hyperlink within the line of your content. It is a more subtle way of directing readers to more content without obnoxiously saying so. It’s not a fancy button– just a link to another post. This is a great way to enter into the land of compelling CTAs.
- Sidebar CTAs This one is one of those fancy button CTAs. It pretty much just hangs out on the sidebar next to your content. It may be relevant, but it’s not directly related to the blog the viewer just read. It can really help you drive company goals!
So that’s it! What do you guys think? Ready to try it yourselves? I think so!
