You may have heard or read that everything you need is contained within you. So, implicitly you should recognize that everything starts with the acknowledgement that you implicitly know what is best for you. Easier said then done and I’m not suggesting you check out of life to meditate in a cave for thirty years for every business and personal decision. I am suggesting you look inside and first recognize the three aspects of you:
- physical
- emotional
- spiritual
Yes, even for business and marketing decisions.
I know there are hundreds of thousands of pages written in psycho-babble on various subjects ranging from ego to id but let me offer a view which may be a bit more approachable for you to get in touch with all aspects of you and bring into alignment that which causes the most confusion…you.
Start meditating daily. There are many techniques to find your heart space. I suggest you start by making yourself small within yourself and visit various parts of your body from the inside. Breathe slow and deep and concentrate on only that body part you are visiting. Start at the toes and travel around eventually getting to your heart. Open the door or pass through the portal to enter that space and listen to your own heartbeat. Once there, picture three chairs facing one another and imagine a setting ready for the most perfect conversation you have ever been witness to.
Physical Self
Picture first your physical self enter the space and take a chair. This representation of you is purely driven by the need for touch, for action, for physical interaction with self, others, nature, work, play, life. This representation of you embodies every physical sensation you have ever felt or will feel; it is a walking nerve ending hypersensitive. Picture this aspect of you feeling the texture of clothes being worn, the feel of the chair, the smell of the candles burning in the room, the taste of the air, the sights surrounding the chairs. Take in all of the physicality and understand that this aspect of you is driven purely by this need; the need for physicality without emotion, without spirituality. It is primal and base but still a critical aspect of you which needs to be embraced for what it is. Don’t judge yourself for the physiological requirements of your human body, but try to divorce the physical need from all else for this avatar in this conversation. Throughout the coming conversation, this avatar will only speak, question and form opinions based sole on the physical perspective without care or concern for emotional or spiritual implications.
Emotional Self
Now picture your emotional self enter the space and take a chair. This representation of you is purely driven by emotional response: love, hate, joy, sadness, bliss, gratitude, anger, admiration, jealously, respect. This representation of you embodies every emotion you have ever felt or will feel; it is a walking sensation of the intangible we categorize as “feeling”. Picture this aspect of you feeling the charge of the space, the energy emanating from both within and without, the emotion of the other avatar seated and the one to come. Take in all of this emotionality and understand that this aspect of you is driven purely by this need for an energetic connection; the need for emotion without physical touch or spirituality. It is ethereal and somewhat aloof but still a critical aspect of you which needs to be embraced for what it is. Don’t judge yourself for the psychological requirements of your human body, but try to divorce the emotional from all else for this avatar in this conversation. Throughout the coming conversation, this avatar will only speak, question and form opinions based sole on the emotional perspective without care or concern for physical or spiritual implications.
Spiritual Self
Finally, picture your spiritual self enter the space and take a chair. This representation of you is purely driven by your god-self, connection with source and the divine within. This representation of you embodies every spiritual dogma, energy, ritual or presence you have ever felt or will feel; it is a walking manifestation of the divine masculine and divine feminine in perfect union as a new balanced whole entity. Picture this aspect of you being able to access the well of life and knowledge, recognizing the god/goddess/source of everything and everyone. Take in all of this spirituality and understand that this aspect of you is driven purely by this need for connection with source; the need for spirituality without physical touch or emotional connection. It is subatomic and galactic on parallel dimensions simultaneously but still a critical aspect of you which needs to be embraced for what it is. Don’t judge yourself for the unexplainable requirements of your human body, but try to divorce the spiritual from all else for this avatar in this conversation. Throughout the coming conversation, this avatar will only speak, question and form opinions based sole on the spiritual perspective without care or concern for physical or emotional implications.
The Conversation
The hard part of this exercise comes next: the conversation. Now that you have a space in your heart set with three aspects of you, it is time for them to interact and stay in character. You can take this interaction in any direction you desire but I suggest you start with the simple questions of:
- “What do you need?” (bare minimum to survive)
- “What do you desire?” (wildest dreams of abundance)
- “What do you deserve?” (what you are willing to work for)
Take note of the separateness of the answers from each aspect of you. Don’t try to rationalize, justify or apologize for the differences. Just accept that the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of you are all driven by different hopes, dreams, and desires. Accept that you are a complex mixture of energies, feelings and experiences which can either be at odds or find a harmonic understanding in balance. I find that periodically dropping into this meditation and having these conversations with the three aspects of myself helps me to shore up those areas that are creating challenges in my life and at least put my discernment and decisions in perspective.
Once you can reconcile this balance outside of meditation, you will recognize the beauty of the journey you are on during this thing we call life and acknowledge that there will never be a destination, only the experience you gain moving day to day through this wonderful plane of existence sharing daily with self, family and community the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of you. All accounts will need to be reconciled often because the discord comes from imbalance.
