Magnetic MOnkey Marketing blog great planA great plan poorly executed is no longer great. There are quite a few things that can derail said plan: lack of confidence and a mountain of self-doubt to start. Innovation takes place when you are open and ready to take action. If you doubt your capabilities, you will not be able to move forward in a constructive way.

So how do we build up our confidence and make progress in our careers?

Forbes contributor, Paula Davis-Laack, writes a great list of ways to develop your personal confidence. Let’s dive into those, shall we?

  1. “Mastery experiences.” Learning new skills is a great way to boost confidence and become surer of capabilities. Putting yourself in a situation to learn and grow will help you discover yourself. Small wins help make you feel more comfortable and confident in your decisions and processes.
  2. “Vicarious experience.” Learning from others can be a great opportunity. Watching others doing what they great at will help you find your own style. Ask to attend a reporting meeting or listen in on a business pitch. You can take notes and grow immensely by observing others.
  3. “Verbal persuasion.” A little coaching never hurt anybody. Sometimes it takes a credible source coaching you through in order to put you on the right track. We’re big believers in giving credit where credit is do. A little confidence boost from a respected source can go a long way in building your own self-efficacy.
  4. “Physical and emotional states.” Sometimes we take cues from our physical and emotional reactions to determine our level of confidence. Maybe if we feel nervous before a big meeting, we take it to be a sign of unpreparedness. In reality, nerves don’t mean we don’t know what we are doing, it means we need to take a deep breath and push forward.

Having a healthy level of confidence DOES NOT make you arrogant or rude. If done in a respectful and practical way, confidence can help you do your job much more effectively and efficiently. If anything, it makes people trust and respect your option more. So what do you think? Are you ready to grow in your own confidence? We think so!
