Alright, so it’s time we talk about something extremely important: brand loyalty. Every company strives for it, but how does one actually achieve it? Especially in regards to the younger generation?
Millennials– those roughly in the age range of 18-35– make up a huge portion of today’s consumers. So, clearly, it’s vital to learn how to earn their loyalty.
We came across an article that details five ways your brand can build up trust and loyalty with the younger generation.
- “Keep it simple.” The mistake most often made when marketing to millennials is that they like flashy, endlessly colorful ads. This, however, is not really true. They tend to like things simple, clean, and, you know, minimalist. Try not to overwhelm the senses with too many options. Focus on making a few selections optimal and targeted. You want satisfied customers, not overwhelmed stress-cases.
- “Lose the gimmicks, focus on quality.” Along the same lines, you have to focus on not overwhelming your audience. The flashy gimmicks usually scare people away, not entice them in further. It’s about authenticity. Millennials tend to gravitate towards real, honest messaging. Your product/service should be a reflection on who you are as a company. Be honest and open and promote your values through your products. Basically, you want to align your product with your mission statement. People will respond to that authentic behavior.
- “Invest in consistent creativity.” Creativity is key here, marketers. A best practice would be to keep it consistent across all your channels and strategies. This younger generation does not really respond to the old methods of communication and sales pitches. They like new and innovative ways. We’ve actually found that they actually respond really well to strong, eye-catching short videos. Also, one-off articles just don’t cut it anymore. You’ve got to invest in consistent content marketing.
- “Authentic, but with mood lighting.” We talked about authenticity, right? We want to be clear here. Being your authentic brand is important, but you don’t want to be boring. Displaying average mediocrity is not the answer. Just because millennials want honesty, does not mean that they want more of the same. They want to feel like they are buying something they don’t already have. You still have to make it special, otherwise the incentive is not there.
- “Tech that makes your life more meaningful.” Of course, people like cool tech that make life easier, but there is more to it than that. They want something to create a deeper and more meaningful connection. When technology can add meaning to someone’s life, magic happens. For example, an app that combines the fun of social media and the altruism of charity would really well with this generation. Think about Time Hopper. It shows you a photo from your past. It’s an old memory instantly brought to your phone. It does extremely well with millennials because it’s more than just a photo– it’s a memory to cherish.
