As you all know, we are big proponents of a strong content strategy. But the best content in the world means nothing if your website isn’t optimized for mobile devices. Let’s face it, we live in a mobile-driven society and we would be missing the mark if we didn’t recognize that.

We’re sure you’re sitting there thinking, “We know this already!” But trust us when we say there are still PLENTY of websites out there that just don’t have the same wow factor on mobile. We came across a Forbes.com article on how to better optimize content for mobile and we had to share it with you all. Let’s jump into “7 Ways to Make Your Content Mobile Friendly,” shall we?

  • “Make it snappy.” In the age of mobile, speed is the be all end all. Google has reported that just over 50% of mobile users will bounce if the page takes longer than 3 seconds to load. It seems like a daunting challenge, but if you can get your page load times down, then you will stand out above your competitors and that means more quality leads.
  •  “Be 100% sure your site works on mobile devices.” It would be in your best interest to have someone go through your entire website to troubleshoot. Click on all the links and CTA buttons. Fill out every gate. Download every piece of content. Make sure your site works on all fronts, especially on mobile devices. If a user can’t download that infographic from a mobile device, you’re wasting time building it out in the first place. Once you’ve done that, have a millennial (or someone’s teenager), do the same thing and click around on your site via mobile. Get honest feedback on the usability of your website and then adjust accordingly.
  • “Make key information on your site easy for mobile users to access.” As you know, it just isn’t enough to have a fast, mobile friendly website. The content you display on your site has to have real VALUE. Mobile users want to easily and efficiently scroll through your site and find the information they’re looking for, such as: pricing models, blogs, directions, contact information, etc. Make sure it’s easily accessible on a phone or tablet and you’ll set yourself up for success.
  • “Use a website design (or WordPress theme) that offers tabbed content.” By setting up a tabbed content template design, you are allowing the user to create their own experience on your website. It becomes more personal and viewable for THEM, which is the most important part.
  • “Format your content for scanning and small screens.” Speaking of viewability…Your content should be easily scannable/optimized for a small screen experience. Make sure to keep it concise and utilize subheaders and bullet points. Adding images always helps too! Also, by using a dark type and a lighter background, you are creating a more eye-friendly contrast for your audience.
  • “Very your content formats.” Try new things! Don’t just stick to one content format and create a million versions of it. Try blogs, infographics, case studies, white papers, VIDEO. This is a big one. People love video these days so make sure to give the people what they want as they say. You don’t even have to reinvent the wheel here. Take the top performing content pieces you have and create relevant video content off of it.
  • “Keep it brief (or at least offer a summary).” People on mobile devices tend to have shorter attention spans, so we want to make sure all of our content gets to the point quickly. This doesn’t mean you have to make every article super short but adding in a quick summary at the beginning can do wonders.

Hopefully these 7 tips help you out in bettering your mobile-friendly content. We know we were really impressed with the strategy here! Let us know your thoughts!
