Okay, so how many times now have we brought up content? A million? Maybe more? That’s fine, right? Important topics demand more attention. So, here it is. Content marketing is quite possibly the most important element of your inbound strategy– of any strategy really. Content is the lifeblood of your marketing campaigns, social media presence, etc.
You can no longer get away with subpar (or no) content! Time to step it up, friends. You already know why it’s important. You can read about that here… or here… or maybe here (okay, we’re done now). Let’s explore the different types of content from which we all can utilize and benefit.
Shane Barker wrote a particularly compelling blog on the subject and we had to share his list of content types.
- “Infographic” These are a great way to portray complex data in an easy-to-digest format. Plus it’s fun and usually pretty colorful. Graphics are the way to go when you are trying to get your info out there without scaring people off with a bunch of numbers and business mumbo jumbo. This is great for your social media presence. People have short attention spans these days (ourselves included… is that a squirrel? No? Okay, back to the point.) Infographics are short, sweet, and to the point. They get the job done without having to watch a 3-minute video.
- “Video” On the subject of videos… Some folks LOVE videos. They can be compelling, dynamic, and interesting to watch. Just make sure that your videos aren’t dry and way too long. No one will watch those. You want fun and engaging imagery and information in order to capture the viewer’s attention. Inspire your viewers to migrate to your website! Make them realize how cool and *relatable* you are with your kick ass videos.
- “List” We love lists. Clearly! Almost all of our blogs have some sort of list aspect going on (Exhibit A: this blog you’re reading now). Personally, we like lists because it provides a lot of relevant information in one easy format. Plus, it’s very easy to follow down the page. Although lists have obviously been around for a very long time, Buzzfeed has made lists articles crazy popular and the usual source of trendiness.
- “What Post” This type of content usually has some sort of ‘what’ question as the title. Think: “What are the Best Ways to Self Motivate.” (Hm.. next blog idea maybe?) It piques interest very quickly by stating the question to be answered right up front. Readers will want to continue on to figure out the answer.
- “How-To Article” How-to articles are a great source of information. It directly suggests what you want to get done and how to get it done. Plain and simple. This is pretty popular online right now. People love a good how-to. That’s what the internet is for these days: Figuring stuff out without leaving the home.
- “Why Post” This one signifies blogs that involve reasons. You might be providing the viewers with facts and details in order to support a particular claim or conclusion. A ‘why’ blog might have something like “5 Reasons We’re Thankful for Inbound Marketing.”
Obviously, not every single company will use every single type of content. It is up to you and your team to figure out what works best for your needs! Usually, it’s some sort of combination of these. Good luck, friends! We believe in you and your content.
