Just starting out? No problem! There are just a few things you should know before it’s too late. Trust us, you don’t want to be the one who starts a business and makes a very avoidable mistake.

Entrepreneur.com writes a great article on the subject. Let’s break down a few of those avoidable mistakes, shall we?

  1. “Superficiality” Because we live in a fast-paced world, our attention to detail tends to dwindle. We often get caught up in the fast product, quick cash mentality, which means corners are cut and details are lost. Don’t fall into this trap! Paying attention to the details is so important for the long-term success of your business. Creating amazing products and dedicating yourself to incredible customer service will set you apart and get you ready for the long haul. And with that in mind, expect change and embrace it. You should ALWAYS be learning as you go, otherwise you will fall behind.
  2. “Chasing two rabbits at the same time” Don’t try to spread yourself too thinly, especially in the beginning. Get really great at one thing first. It all comes back to attention to detail right? If you are trying to do too many things at once, you’re not focusing on the small details.  Of course, it’s natural to think that two is better than one and you can bring in more revenue here. However, quality is so much more important than quantity. Credibility is always more valuable than the quick buck because it creates lasting success.
  3. “Ignoring ‘minor issues’” While not sweating the small stuff is a necessary life lesson, cutting corners will not help your business thrive. Small issues can build and build until you’ve lost any credibility you had. That minor typo on your homepage, that broken link from your Twitter post, that one negative review, etc. It’s okay to make mistakes, of course. Everyone is human. But fix it fast. Even if it doesn’t feel like the biggest priority to you at the time, it will be when your clients (or potential investors) make it a big deal.

While these three small things don’t feel like massive mistakes now, you can actually make a massive impact by shifting your mindset. If you’re fairly new in the business and you need some advice, this is a great place to start! So, jump in and let us know how it goes!
